“We must accept the results of this election,” Harris stated firmly before a packed audience at her alma mater, addressing both her supporters and the nation. “Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also assured him that we will facilitate a smooth transition of power.”
While conceding, Harris reflected on the campaign’s values and the passion of her supporters.
“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for. But the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up,” she emphasized.
Harris continued, “I concede this election, but I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign—the fight for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and dignity for all.”
Harris’s remarks underscored her commitment to the principles she championed, declaring that these ideals remain at the core of America’s identity.
With unofficial election results still being processed, major news outlets, including Fox News, report that Trump has secured at least 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 required to claim victory.
While the official certification is still pending, House Speaker Mike Johnson referred to Trump as president-elect, and foreign leaders have begun sending their congratulations.
As part of the election, U.S. voters selected one-third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives, and governors across 11 states and two territories, further shaping the nation’s political landscape.
Concluding her address, Harris called for unity and resilience. “We will never give up the fight for our democracy, for the rule of law, for equal justice, and for the sacred idea that every one of us, no matter who we are or where we start out, has fundamental rights and freedoms that must be respected and upheld.”
With a pledge to help guide the transition, Harris’s remarks emphasized a commitment to a peaceful handover, preserving democratic integrity as she steps aside.
