NAKURU, Kenya — The Kenya Military Academy in Lanet has begun receiving shortlisted Specialist Officer candidates for the 2025 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise, marking a crucial phase in the military’s annual intake of highly skilled professionals.
The cohort consists of experts drawn from a wide range of fields — including engineering, medicine, media, and other technical disciplines — reflecting KDF’s ongoing shift toward a more technologically advanced and professionally diverse force.
Over the next several days, the candidates will undergo rigorous documentation checks, medical examinations, physical fitness tests, and detailed assessments of their professional competencies. These evaluations will determine their readiness for commissioning as Specialist Cadet Officers.
Chief Recruiting Officer Brigadier Samuel Kimani reaffirmed KDF’s commitment to integrity and excellence throughout the process, stressing that the recruitment aims to build a new cadre of defence leaders capable of addressing Kenya’s rapidly evolving security landscape.
“I urge all participating in this exercise to maintain the highest levels of integrity and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations in place.
The KDF does not, and will not, tolerate any form of recruitment malpractice. Any such incidents will be dealt with accordingly,” he warned.
Recruitment Chief Coordinator Brigadier Alphonce Ndar, speaking during the intake, urged candidates to trust the system and refrain from seeking shortcuts, noting that each stage of the evaluation is deliberately designed to test both character and capability.
The specialist recruitment is one of the most competitive segments of the KDF intake, seeking not only physical and mental strength but also advanced technical expertise required to support modern military operations.
