NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya is stepping into a new era of public service modernization, thanks to the introduction of two innovative digital systems: the Presidential Directives Management Information System (PDMIS) and the Foreign Travel Management Information System (FOTIMS).
Unveiled by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, these systems promise to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the government.
For years, the execution of presidential directives in Kenya has faced significant challenges.

Traditionally, these directives were manually processed, which resulted in frequent miscommunication and document misplacement.
The new PDMIS aims to address these issues by automating the issuance and tracking of presidential directives.
This digital platform ensures uniform distribution and real-time monitoring of directives, reducing the risk of document loss and manipulation.
By eliminating hard copies, the system holds ministries and state departments accountable for timely execution.

By digitizing the entire process, FOTIMS ensures swift and transparent handling of travel applications and approvals.
This system not only streamlines the process but also enhances cost-effectiveness by reducing the need for paper records.
Additionally, FOTIMS provides real-time information on the whereabouts of senior officials, offering an unprecedented level of oversight. It also tracks the details of acting officers during periods of foreign travel, ensuring continuity and accountability in government operations.
Felix Koskei, whose role includes supervision of all Principal Secretaries, has been a driving force behind this shift.
