NAIROBI, Kenya — Lee Kinyanjui has hosted a high-level delegation from Uganda led by Gen. Wilson Mbadi, Uganda’s Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, who is in Kenya for a three-day benchmarking mission on the country’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) model.
Also present during the discussions was Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina Ombam, who joined the delegation in reviewing how SEZs continue to shape Kenya’s industrial development.
Kenya has so far gazetted 37 Special Economic Zones, attracting more than USD 1.2 billion in investments, creating 12,000 direct jobs, and supporting over 30,000 indirect jobs.
The zones offer investors tax incentives, subsidised power, favourable land leases, and ready industrial infrastructure.
Uganda is also expanding its industrialisation agenda, with 15 free zones currently under development.
Kinyanjui said the visit demonstrates a strong commitment to shared learning within the East African region.

“As members of the East African Community, working together and sharing best practices will be key to accelerating Africa’s industrial growth,” he said, adding that he looks forward to deepening Kenya–Uganda cooperation on SEZ development.
