KNEC Website Crashes Leaving Candidates Unable to access KCSE Results

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Thousands of anxious candidates of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination faced frustration as they were unable to access their results following their release on Thursday afternoon.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website, which was meant to host the results, went down almost immediately after the announcement.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba unveiled the results just after noon, informing the public that they would be accessible shortly thereafter.

Candidates were directed to check their individual results on the official KNEC website, https://resullts.knec.ac.ke.

For those encountering difficulties, Ogamba provided alternative toll-free helpline numbers: 0800724900 and 0800721410.

Despite these assurances, Citizen Digital reported that the KNEC website was down, with error messages such as “This page isn’t working” and “This site can’t be reached” frustrating users attempting to retrieve their results online.

Additionally, the helpline numbers provided were constantly busy, rendering them ineffective for many trying to get assistance.

At the time of this report, KNEC had not issued any statement regarding the technical difficulties, leaving candidates and their families in suspense.

This year’s situation is a stark contrast to previous years when results were primarily accessed through SMS by sending candidates’ index numbers to a short code provided by KNEC.

The crash mirrors a similar incident from 2023, when Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates experienced delays in accessing their results after the SMS service failed.

In that case, KNEC apologized, attributing the issue to technical glitches in their system.

With 1693 candidates scoring an A grade and 48,333 receiving an E, the 2024 KCSE results have been highly anticipated.

However, the joy and relief of receiving these results have been overshadowed by the technical failures that have yet again marred the announcement process.
