KPA Warns Public Over Fake Recruitment Letters, Payment Scams

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya — The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has issued a public warning over fraudulent recruitment offers circulating online, cautioning job seekers against paying money to individuals posing as officials of the Authority.

In a statement released on Sunday, KPA said fraudsters are distributing fake offer letters and demanding payments under the guise of facilitating employment within the port agency.

“Kenya Ports Authority wishes to alert the public to fraudulent schemes involving individuals circulating fake offer letters and demanding payments under the pretext of recruitment,” the notice read.

The Authority clarified that its ongoing recruitment process has not yet been finalised and that successful candidates will be contacted only through official KPA communication channels once the process is complete.

KPA emphasised that it does not charge any fees at any stage of recruitment, including application, interviews, or document processing.

“Any request for payment, whether for ‘facilitation,’ ‘processing,’ or any other purpose, is a clear attempt to defraud. Such requests should be ignored entirely,” the statement added.

“KPA will not be held liable for any losses, damages, or misrepresentations arising from such fraudulent activities. We advise all job seekers to rely only on information from our official communication channels, including our website: https://kpa.co.ke and our verified social media platforms,” KPA said in their statement.

The Authority further stated that it will not be held liable for losses or damages arising from the fraudulent activities and urged the public to rely solely on verified communication platforms, including its official website and social media pages.

Security agencies have in recent years intensified crackdowns on such syndicates, warning that victims rarely recover lost funds once payments are made through mobile money transfers or bank deposits.

KPA advised affected individuals to report suspicious communications to law enforcement authorities and avoid sharing personal information with unverified sources.

The Port of Mombasa remains one of Kenya’s largest employers within the maritime and logistics sector, making recruitment announcements highly sought after and vulnerable to exploitation by scammers.
