Moses Kuria Exposes Individuals Plotting Violence in Mbeere North In Viral Video

Date:

EMBU, Kenya — Former Cabinet Secretary and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Party Leader Moses Kuria has alleged a plot to disrupt former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s upcoming campaign tour in Mbeere North, warning of a coordinated attempt to stir political violence.

In a statement shared on Tuesday evening, Kuria claimed that a group of individuals linked to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) was planning to pose as CCK supporters during Gachagua’s rallies to create chaos and tarnish his party’s image.

“It has come to the attention of Chama Cha Kazi that some UDA functionaries are planning to disrupt Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign tour dressed in CCK uniforms. They will also demand Ksh10 million, which Hon Gachagua allegedly took from our candidate, Hon Duncan Mbui,” Kuria said.

Kuria dismissed the claims of any debt between Gachagua and Mbui, terming them baseless and politically motivated.

“For the record, Hon Gachagua does not owe any money to Hon Mbui, and any claims to that effect should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” he said.

The former Trade CS described the alleged scheme as a deliberate attempt to provoke unrest and sow divisions ahead of the November 27 Mbeere North by-election, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kuria urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate the alleged mobilisation for violence, saying early intervention could prevent a repeat of Kenya’s past electoral tensions.

“What will happen on November 27 is a harbinger of what could happen on August 10, 2027, if these schemes are ignored,” he cautioned.

He reaffirmed CCK’s commitment to peaceful and issue-based politics, stressing that the party had adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward electoral violence after lessons learned from the 2007–2008 post-election crisis.

Kuria’s statement comes amid heightened political rivalry in Mbeere North, where the upcoming by-election has become a litmus test for President William Ruto and former DP Gachagua’s influence in the Mt. Kenya region.

The United Opposition has endorsed Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish, while UDA is backing Leonard Muthende, setting the stage for a fiercely contested race expected to reflect the shifting political undercurrents in the region.
