Nairobi, Kenya- Kenyan authorities are looking into claims that forces from Somalia’s Jubbaland region have crossed the border into Mandera County.
The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, confirmed the investigation, though he stated the government has no current knowledge of such an incursion.
Government’s Stance on the Border Situation
During a press briefing in Busia, part of his “Jukwaa la Usalama” security tour, CS Murkomen clarified the government’s position.
He emphasized that any individuals who have crossed the border due to conflict in Somalia will have their identities verified and be treated in accordance with international law. The primary goal, he stated, is to prevent criminal elements from entering the country.
Murkomen also mentioned that those seeking refuge would be helped in coordination with the Somali government, with which Kenya maintains a positive relationship.
He urged politicians to avoid politicizing the matter, stressing that national security is handled with extreme care and in the country’s best interest.
He assured the residents of Mandera that security agencies are on high alert to guarantee their safety.

Investigation into Kilifi Cult Activities
In addition to the border issue, CS Murkomen addressed the ongoing investigation into a suspected cult in Kilifi County, specifically at the Kwa Binzaro area, where several bodies have been recovered.
He confirmed that the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has visited the site to gather information and will provide an update to the public later today.
Murkomen urged citizens to report any missing family members to the authorities to help prevent people from falling victim to extremist groups.
