NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested a foreign national in Nairobi’s South B area following a raid that led to the recovery of cannabis and other substances suspected to be narcotics.
In a statement issued Sunday morning, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from South B Police Station acted on intelligence reports that an apartment in the Sana Sana area was being used as a hub for storing and distributing illegal drugs.
“Officers from South B Police Station yesterday conducted an operation within the Sana Sana area following intelligence reports that a particular apartment was being used as a hub for the storage and distribution of illegal drugs,” the statement read.
Police said they found the suspect inside the apartment during the operation. A search of the residence yielded 316 rolls and 105 sachets of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Each sachet weighed about 1.5 grams, according to officers.
Investigators also recovered several sachets containing a white powdery substance believed to be a narcotic drug. The samples will undergo forensic analysis to determine their exact composition.
In addition, officers seized 34 sachets of rolling papers and foreign currency in different denominations, which police believe may be proceeds of the suspected illegal trade.
“The suspect was taken into custody, and all recovered items were secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations and further legal action,” NPS said, reiterating its commitment to combating narcotics and other forms of criminality.
Under Kenya’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, possession, trafficking, and distribution of banned drugs attract severe penalties, including lengthy prison terms and hefty fines. The law provides that anyone found guilty of trafficking may face life imprisonment or a fine of up to three times the market value of the drugs, whichever is greater.

As investigations continue, the suspect is expected to be arraigned once forensic results are complete and charges are formally preferred. Police have not disclosed the nationality of the suspect or whether additional arrests are likely.
The operation underscores the state’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, a crime authorities say fuels other forms of criminal activity and undermines public safety.
