NAIROBI, Kenya — George Natembeya has joined national leaders in mourning the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as a towering political figure whose contribution to Kenya’s public life was profound and enduring.
In a condolence message, Natembeya said the country had been robbed of a distinguished leader following Jirongo’s sudden death in a fatal road accident along the Nakuru–Naivasha Highway.
“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, the people of Lugari Constituency, and the entire nation following the sudden and tragic passing of the former Member of Parliament, the late Hon. Cyrus Jirongo,” Natembeya said.
He praised Jirongo’s long political career, noting that he was widely remembered for his unwavering commitment to public service, deep concern for the welfare of ordinary Kenyans, and dedication to national unity and development.
Natembeya said Jirongo’s death marked an immense loss not only to his family and constituents but also to the country at large, given his influence during a defining period of Kenya’s political history.
As the nation mourns, Natembeya called for unity and reflection, praying for comfort for the bereaved family and all those affected by the loss.
“May the Almighty God grant eternal rest to his soul and comfort, strength, and peace to his family and all those grieving during this difficult time,” he said.
