NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Assembly has announced a four-day schedule for the vetting of President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominees.
The process, set to begin on Thursday, August 1, 2024, and conclude on Sunday, August 4, 2024, will see at least five nominees vetted each day.
This announcement follows the recent communication from President Ruto to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, nominating an additional ten individuals for the roles of Cabinet Secretaries. These nominees will undergo scrutiny to assess their suitability for the positions.
The vetting sessions will be conducted by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Wetang’ula.
They are scheduled to take place at the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, Parliament Buildings, starting from 8 a.m. daily.
This process is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that the nominated individuals are well-qualified and capable of executing their duties effectively.
The vetting will not only assess the professional qualifications and experience of the nominees but also their integrity and ability to align with the government’s agenda.
Kenyans have until August 1, 2024, to submit their views on these nominees, a step that allows the public to participate in the vetting process.
Nominees are required to present original identity documents, academic and professional certificates, and clearance letters from various regulatory bodies including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
President Ruto has thus far nominated 20 individuals to his cabinet, with the Attorney General and the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development positions still pending.
The President, after dissolving his previous cabinet except for the Prime Cabinet Secretary position, emphasized his commitment to forming a government that reflects Kenya’s diverse political and social landscape.
