NAIROBI, Kenya – A section of ODM leaders from Nairobi County have publicly declared their support for President William Ruto’s administration, urging opposition politicians to abandon attempts at regime change and instead prepare for the 2027 elections.
The leaders, who met on Wednesday under the Nairobi County Coordinating Team, said they remain committed to the Broad-Based Government agreement forged between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In a joint statement, the team condemned the recent wave of violent protests in Nairobi, which they said resulted in the destruction of property, injuries, and loss of lives.
While calling for accountability from police officers accused of brutality, the leaders also demanded that those behind the looting and alleged sexual violence during the protests be brought to justice.
“We strongly condemn the acts of lawlessness witnessed in the city. Equally, a probe must be conducted to identify and punish the perpetrators of the looting and raping that happened during the protests,” the statement read in part.

The leaders also distanced themselves from opposition politicians who they said were attempting to destabilize the country under the guise of commemorating Saba Saba, accusing them of trying to settle political scores with the President.
“ODM will never be a party to any regime change arrangements or associated with actors harbouring such plans. We remain committed to constitutional transfer of power through the ballot,” the leaders said, taunting dissenters to face Ruto at the ballot in 2027.
The Nairobi ODM team further commended the government for fully reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which they said must now begin preparations for a “free, fair and credible” general election.
Significantly, the leaders praised the government for disbursing county funds at the start of the financial year — a move they described as unprecedented since the advent of devolution.
“For the first time, the government has released all monies due to counties at the beginning of the financial year. Honesty requires that we acknowledge this milestone and congratulate the government,” they said, terming it a sign of what the Broad-Based Government can achieve with time and support.
The statement was signed by Nairobi ODM chairman and Makadara MP George Aladwa, ODM Nairobi chairlady Catherine Apiyo Akoth (MCA), and youth leader Stanzo Omungala (MCA).
