NAIROBI, Kenya – The Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed the conviction of Margret Kemunto Nyaribo, who was accused of allegedly trafficking a minor for labour exploitation.
Nyaribo was found guilty of contravening Section 3(3), read together with Section 3(5) of the Counter Trafficking in Persons Act.
The verdict was delivered at the Milimani Children’s Court by Chief Magistrate Hon. Bernard Ochoi, with her sentencing scheduled for January 21, 2025, after the pre-sentencing report was submitted.

This was a massive victory for the ODPP in their fight against human trafficking, which has intensified in the country over the past years.
According to the evidence presented in the court, Nyaribo lured the minor from Kisii to Nairobi, where she had promised him to pay for his education only to subject her to forced labour.
The minor was exploited as a domestic worker and sometimes forced to sell vegetables at Nyaribo’s kiosk.
Chief Magistrate Ochoi stated that the evidence presented by prosecutors Linda Ndambiri and Victor Preston Owuor proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the conviction.
Persons found guilty of such offences should be sentenced to a minimum sentence of 30 years imprisonment or a fine of at least Ksh. 30 million, with the possibility of both penalties being applied in the Counter Trafficking in Persons Act.
