President Ruto Vows to Crackdown on Unlicensed Recruiters in Kenya-Germany Jobs Program

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has taken a firm stance against unlicensed recruiting agents, declaring that only accredited agencies will be allowed to operate under Kenya’s new labor agreement with Germany.

Speaking during roundtable discussions with Kenyan and German companies on Labor Mobility in Berlin, Ruto stressed that his administration is committed to ensuring a transparent and seamless process for Kenyan workers seeking employment in Germany.

“We want to make sure that this is seamless and avoid unlicensed people from operating in this space,” Ruto said.

He emphasized that recruiting agents who flout the labor agreement’s regulations would face consequences.

“Those that are not doing the right thing know what the consequences will be, because we want this arrangement to be corruption-free and benefit the people we are targeting,” he added.

The President’s remarks come on the heels of the signing of a landmark Labor Mobility Partnership Agreement between Kenya and Germany, opening up opportunities for 250,000 skilled and semi-skilled Kenyan workers.

The deal, signed on Friday by President Ruto and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will allow Kenyans to access employment in Europe’s largest economy under a controlled and regulated migration program.

Germany has agreed to relax certain immigration policies to facilitate Kenyan workers’ entry into its labor market, including extending temporary residence permits for those with approved job placements.

In addition, long-term visas will be issued to Kenyans pursuing studies or vocational training in Germany, expanding the scope of the partnership beyond just employment.

The labor agreement marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to boost employment opportunities abroad, with Ruto’s administration committed to ensuring the integrity and success of the program by eliminating corruption and unlicensed intermediaries.
