Ruto Pledges Government Support After Second Wave of Floods Hits Nairobi

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has assured residents that the government will intensify emergency response efforts after a second wave of floods struck Nairobi in less than two weeks, leaving several communities affected.

In a statement issued Sunday, the Head of State said a multi-agency response team had been mobilised to coordinate rescue, evacuation, and relief operations for residents impacted by the ongoing heavy rains.

The team includes emergency responders, security agencies, humanitarian teams, and technical departments working together to assist affected families and stabilise the situation in flood-prone areas.

“We continue to closely monitor the situation, and I urge all Kenyans to strictly follow the guidance issued by relevant authorities, including the Kenya Meteorological Department and the police,” Ruto said.

The president noted that the national government would continue working closely with the Nairobi City County Government to ensure emergency food supplies and medical assistance reach all those displaced or affected by the floods.

“The government will continue to take every necessary step to safeguard lives, support affected communities, and ensure that no Kenyan faces this challenge alone,” he added.

According to the president, relevant government departments will also continue issuing safety advisories and preparedness guidelines as the heavy rains persist in several parts of the country.

“The ongoing heavy rains affecting several parts of our country continue to put lives and livelihoods at risk. My thoughts are with the families and communities that have already been affected during this difficult period,” Ruto said.

Authorities have urged residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and heed warnings issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department, which has previously warned of continued heavy rainfall in parts of the country.

Emergency teams remain on standby to assist residents, while officials continue monitoring rivers, drainage systems, and vulnerable settlements across the capital.

Further updates are expected as authorities assess the full impact of the flooding and coordinate ongoing relief efforts.
