NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has congratulated Dr. Monica Juma on her appointment as Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the UN Office in Vienna.
In a statement on social media, President Ruto lauded Dr. Juma’s “stellar performance” in her previous roles, including as National Security Advisor and Secretary to the National Security Council.
“Her service to our country with utmost professionalism and patriotism has earned her recognition beyond our borders,” he said.
The President also thanked UN Secretary-General António Guterres for appointing a Kenyan and a woman leader, noting the timing coincides with celebrations of women’s achievements.
“Kenya is committed to multilateralism, and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the United Nations,” he added.
Dr. Juma’s appointment places her at the helm of UNODC at a critical moment, underscoring Kenya’s growing influence in multilateral diplomacy and reinforcing the country’s commitment to gender representation on the global stage.
President Ruto concluded by congratulating Dr. Juma and marking the occasion in celebration of Women’s Day.
