Two Arrested as Detectives Confiscate Bhang Worth Sh13.5 Million

Date:

NAIVASHA, Kenya – Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have arrested two men and seized cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh13.5 million in a major drug bust along the Naivasha-Nairobi highway.

The operation, which was triggered by a tip-off from the public, led to the interception of a Toyota Noah (registration number KBH 226U) near the Delamere shop.

The vehicle, driven by Bonface Mandende Zinjenga and accompanied by John Oloo Amolo, was found to be carrying a concealed haul of narcotics.

Upon searching the vehicle at the Naivasha Police Station, detectives uncovered eight gunny bags and eleven bales of bhang—amounting to 450 kilograms—all carefully packed and ready for distribution.

The two suspects, together with the vehicle and the seized drugs, were later escorted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi for further interrogation and processing ahead of their arraignment.

Authorities say the seizure is part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the country.

The DCI is calling on members of the public to continue sharing information anonymously through their toll-free hotline (0800 722 203) or WhatsApp number (0709 570 000), assuring full confidentiality and safety for whistleblowers.

“#FichuaKwaDCI – Usiogope!” the agency emphasized in its appeal to citizens.

The bust is among the largest along the busy highway in recent months and underscores the continued use of public roads in the illegal movement of narcotics.
