UoN Student Fatally Stabbed by Roommate After Quarrel Over Toilet Use

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Police in Kikuyu have arrested a University of Nairobi student accused of fatally stabbing his roommate following a quarrel over bathroom use.

The victim, Brian Wambui, a third-year student, died from suspected stab wounds after an altercation with his roommate, identified as Justus Otieno.

Dispute Over Toilet Use

According to witnesses, the argument began over who should flush and clean the hostel toilet. The disagreement escalated, drawing in friends of the deceased.

Police said the suspect then rushed to the room, retrieved a weapon, and allegedly stabbed Wambui.

Omondi Ogola, an officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu, confirmed the incident and urged students to embrace alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

“Preliminarily, we have been informed that the cause of the quarrel was a disagreement over the ablution block. The disagreement escalated and friends of the deceased joined in. That is when the suspect dashed to the house to get a weapon to defend himself,” Ogola said.

Investigations Underway

Wambui’s body was moved to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

The suspect is currently being held at Kikuyu Police Station, pending investigations and arraignment.

The killing has shocked students and raised concerns about rising campus conflicts turning violent.
