HOMA BAY, Kenya — Governor Gladys Wanga has dismissed Peter Ogolla, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, and nominated Joseph Mitito to take over the portfolio.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 1, Governor Wanga cited her powers under Section 35(a) of the County Governments Act to effect the dismissal, describing the move as part of efforts to enhance service delivery in Homa Bay County.
“I do hereby dismiss Dr Peter Ogolla as provided for in Section 35(a) of the County Governments Act. He was serving as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development,” read the statement in part.
Wanga described Mitito as “a consummate professional with strong leadership skills from Homa Bay Town” and said she would submit his name and vetting documents to the County Assembly for approval.
The governor also reassigned Danish Onyango to serve as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, while also acting as the CECM for Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Development.
“The changes herein take effect immediately. The County Secretary is tasked to ensure smooth handing over by those affected,” Governor Wanga added, noting that the reshuffle aims to strengthen governance and service delivery.
This latest adjustment follows a series of cabinet changes earlier in the year, including the nomination of Engineer Elijah Munga as CECM for Youth, Sports, Talent Development, Gender Inclusivity, Cultural Heritage, and Social Services, as well as departmental reassignments of chief officers in various county departments.
Observers say the changes reflect Governor Wanga’s continued efforts to streamline her executive team and align leadership with performance and service delivery objectives.
