Kenyan Students Excel in Huawei’s Digital Tech Immersion in China

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Twenty five Kenyan students took a significant leap into the digital future, after completing a one-week immersion program under Huawei’s Seeds for the Future initiative

This intensive ICT study tour, held in Shanghai, China, coincided with MWC Shanghai 2024 and aimed to equip young minds with cutting-edge digital skills.

The Huawei Seeds for the Future program isn’t just a tech bootcamp—it’s a transformative experience.

Students from various Sub-Saharan African countries converge to innovate and create solutions that address their communities’ pressing social and environmental challenges.

This year’s cohort dived into a project named Tech4Good, focusing on leveraging technology to make tangible societal impacts.

Among the standout participants was Sylvia Jebet from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Competing against over 50 students from across Sub-Saharan Africa, Jebet secured second place at the 2024 Leadership Employability Advancement Possibility (LEAP) Summit.

Her prowess in digital content creation was showcased through captivating coverage of their tour, which included highlights like the Huawei Watt Exhibition Hall, DJI R&D center in Shenzhen, and the picturesque Huawei Songshan Lake visit.

Huawei didn’t stop at showcasing current achievements. At MWC Shanghai 2024, they announced an ambitious plan to train an additional 150,000 talents in Sub-Saharan Africa over the next three years.

“We have made significant strides in talent development across African countries, thanks to the collaboration of government agencies, academia, and industry,” said Hover Gao, President of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa.

Under the LEAP framework, Huawei is dedicated to fostering digital power and cloud ecosystems.

They host extensive training and incubation programs for educators and job fairs to bridge the gap between education and employment.

This initiative has already reached over 18,000 people from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and more.
