CBK Names Gerald Nyaoma New Deputy Governor

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has appointed Gerald Nyaoma Arita as its new Deputy Governor, with his tenure set to commence in January.

Nyaoma’s appointment follows President William Ruto’s decision in November 2024, marking his return to the institution where he previously had a long and distinguished career.

“Mr. Nyaoma returns to CBK after having had a long and distinguished career at the Bank. He joined CBK in August 1988, and served in various senior positions including the Financial Markets, Banking Services, and Internal Audit Departments, culminating in his role as the Director of the Bank Supervision Department,” CBK said in a statement.

Following his nomination by President Ruto, Nyaoma’s name was forwarded to the National Assembly Finance Committee, chaired by Kuria Kimani, for vetting.

The committee approved his appointment, paving the way for Senate approval.

With a 36-year stint at CBK, Nyaoma began his career as a management trainee in 1988, steadily rising through the ranks to become the Director of Supervision before his initial departure.

His return to the CBK is seen as a significant reinforcement of the bank’s leadership.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome him back to the Central Bank of Kenya,” said CBK Governor Kamau Thugge on Tuesday.

Nyaoma will serve alongside Susan Koech, who also holds the position of CBK Deputy Governor.
