Safaricom Marks 24 Years With Special M-PESA Promotion

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications company, is celebrating its 24th anniversary by offering a special one-day promotion for M-PESA users.

On Wednesday, the telco announced that customers will be refunded the transaction fee on their first “send money” transaction of the day.

The promotion is available for those using the M-PESA app or by dialing *344#.

Safaricom revealed the offer through a tweet, expressing gratitude to its loyal customers. “Asante kwa miaka 24.

Get your transaction fee refunded for the first send money transaction today,” the message read. However, the offer is only valid for the day, ending at midnight.

This gesture follows Safaricom’s tradition of rewarding customers during milestone celebrations. In 2020, when the company marked its 20th anniversary, customers enjoyed free 20-minute calls and data bundles as part of the celebrations.

The promotion comes at a time when Safaricom continues to show robust financial performance. Earlier this year, the company reported a pre-tax profit of KSh 139.9 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

The group’s earnings, which include operations in Ethiopia, hit KSh 94.9 billion—a 3.5% year-on-year growth—surpassing market expectations.

The strong performance has been attributed to customer segmentation, digital innovations, and public sector digitization.
