NAIROBI, Kenya — Sanlam Allianz Holdings (Kenya) PLC has announced changes to its board, appointing two new independent and non-executive directors while accepting the resignation of two long-serving board members.
In a notice signed by Group Company Secretary Emma Wachira and dated October 1, 2026, the insurer announced the appointment of Millicent Onyonyi and Hilda W. Mucha, with both appointments taking effect on September 30.
The changes coincide with the departure of Dr Grace Mwai and Rose Agutu, who resigned from the board effective the same date.
Millicent Onyonyi Joins Board
Onyonyi has joined the board as an Independent and Non-Executive Director, bringing more than two decades of experience in executive leadership and coaching.
She has held senior positions at several multinational and local companies, including Lexo Energy, Ola Energy, BOC Kenya, Colgate and ExxonMobil.
Onyonyi holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Business Administration, Marketing and Human Resources.
She is also a certified Executive Coach through The Academy of Executive Coaching.
Her professional training includes strategic planning through the Mobil Executive Leadership Program at INSEAD in France and the Mobil Africa Leadership Program at CEDEP in France. She has also undertaken Retail Excellence Africa training in Paris.
Onyonyi was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) for her contribution to national development.
Hilda Mucha Brings Audit, Risk Experience
Mucha has also been appointed an Independent and Non-Executive Director, bringing more than 30 years of experience in accountancy, audit, risk management, regulation and corporate governance.
She currently works as an independent consultant providing accounting and finance advisory services in East and Central Africa.
Mucha previously served as a Non-Executive Director at Jubilee Insurance.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Westminster and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
She also holds a Corporate Governance Certification from the Center for Corporate Governance.
Two Directors Exit
The board changes also mark the departure of Mwai and Agutu, who had both served as independent and non-executive directors since May 9, 2019.
During her tenure, Mwai chaired the Human Resources, Nomination and Remuneration Committee and served on the Investment Committee.
Agutu served on the Audit, Actuarial, Risk and Compliance Committee during her time on the board.
Sanlam Allianz said its board and management appreciated the contributions of the two outgoing directors and wished them well in their future endeavours.
