TotalEnergies Kenya Appoints Biova Agboutou as Board Chair Amid Energy Sector Shift

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya— TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya has announced the appointment of Biova Agboutou as its new Director and Chairperson of the Board, effective September 1, 2025. Agboutou replaces Elodie Luce, who resigned to take on a new position within the wider TotalEnergies Group.

“TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya has appointed Ms. Biova Agboutou as Director and Chairperson of the Board effective 1 September 2025,” the company confirmed in a statement.

“She replaces Ms. Elodie Luce, who resigned after serving since 2019 to take up a new role within the TotalEnergies Group.”

Agboutou joins the Kenyan subsidiary at a pivotal time for the country’s energy sector, which is increasingly pivoting toward cleaner energy solutions and more efficient operational models.

Analysts note that Kenya’s oil and gas market is under pressure from regulatory reforms, rising competition in renewable energy, and shifting consumer preferences toward sustainable fuels.

Her professional background spans multiple continents, with extensive experience in both operational and strategic roles across the TotalEnergies network.

Agboutou previously served as LPG Vice President, Marketing and Services in Paris, Lead Negotiator for New Ventures and Asset Management, and Deputy Managing Director of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project in Kampala.

She has also held senior leadership roles in Madagascar, Equatorial Guinea, and France, gaining firsthand experience in managing complex energy operations.

Agboutou holds a Master of Science in Operations Research and Transportation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master of Engineering from CentraleSupélec.

Industry observers say her blend of technical expertise and management experience positions her to navigate TotalEnergies Kenya through ongoing market reforms and the company’s broader growth agenda.

TotalEnergies Kenya has been expanding its footprint in retail fuel, liquefied petroleum gas, and renewable energy solutions, aligning with global energy transition trends.

Agboutou’s appointment is expected to bolster strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, investment planning, and market competitiveness.

With Kenya’s energy landscape evolving rapidly, Total contends Agboutou’s leadership is set to influence the sector’s trajectory while consolidating TotalEnergies’ position in East Africa.
