NAIROBI — The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has reported a surge in traffic along the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit road and the Rironi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha road, warning motorists traveling to Western Kenya to exercise caution during the festive season.
KeNHA urged drivers to strictly observe lane discipline, cooperate with traffic management teams, and drive responsibly to ensure smooth flow and prevent accidents.
The authority emphasized that it is working closely with the National Police to manage traffic along these heavily used corridors.
“Cooperation and responsible conduct of all road users remain critical to ensuring safe and timely journeys,” KeNHA said.

To help motorists avoid congestion in case of traffic snarl-ups, the authority has provided several alternative routes, including Thika-Magumu-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Flyover-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Naivasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Gilgil-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Ngong-Suswa-Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru; Nakuru-Kampi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine-Makutano; and Nakuru-Njoro-Mau Summit.
The festive season typically brings high traffic volumes on major highways connecting Nairobi, Nakuru, and Naivasha, which are key entry points for travelers heading to Western Kenya.
KeNHA encouraged motorists to plan their trips carefully, leave early, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
Authorities continue to monitor traffic patterns and coordinate with law enforcement to ensure a swift response to incidents.
Motorists are advised to remain patient, avoid reckless driving, and prioritize safety for themselves and other road users.
