NAIROBI — The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weekly weather forecast for 23–29 December 2025, predicting rainfall over much of the southern half of the country, alongside hot daytime temperatures and cooler nights in highland areas.

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected in highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, and the southeastern lowlands.

Showers may be scattered, but some areas could experience moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially impacting travel and outdoor activities.

Hot Daytime Conditions

MeteoKenya predicts daytime maximum temperatures above 30°C in several regions, including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, parts of the southeastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Cool Nights in Highlands and Rift Valley

Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro. Meteorologists advise keeping warm during the nights, especially for vulnerable populations.

What This Means for Kenyans

  • Farmers: Should prepare for rainfall in southern regions and plan irrigation or harvesting activities accordingly.
  • Travellers and Commuters: May face wet and slippery roads, especially in highland areas and the Rift Valley.
  • Residents in Hot Zones: Take precautions against dehydration and sunstroke during daytime heat peaks.
