SIRIMON, Kenya — The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has carried out an aerial assessment of the ongoing wildfire in Ontulili Forest, near Sirimon Gate, as flames spread through a gorge toward the steep slopes of River Sirimon.
The fire, attributed to prolonged dry conditions and unsafe honey-harvesting practices, was detected within seconds by KFS’s AI-enabled static aerial patrol system, allowing for rapid mobilization and real-time decision-making.
The assessment was conducted by Forestry Principal Secretary George Mugambi and Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko, highlighting the urgency and scale of the response.
