BONDO, Kenya — Anglican Bishop Prof. David Kodia of the Diocese of Bondo, who moved mourners with a fiery sermon during the state funeral service at Nyayo Stadium, will preside over today’s funeral service for the former Prime Minister, the late Raila Amolo Odinga, at his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County.
Bishop Kodia, a respected theologian and outspoken cleric, earned praise across the country for his candid message during the national memorial at Nyayo Stadium, where he rebuked Kenya’s political elite for what he termed “the moral decay of leadership and the culture of corruption that has crippled the nation.”
During his sermon, Kodia warned leaders against exploiting the poor through “handouts and looted wealth,” urging them to emulate Raila’s integrity, humility, and lifelong commitment to justice and equality.
“Raila never used money to buy loyalty or silence dissent,” he said. “He led with conviction, not with currency. Today’s politicians must learn that true leadership is about sacrifice, not self-enrichment.”
As thousands converge in Bondo for the final farewell, Bishop Kodia’s presence is expected to lend a deeply spiritual tone to the occasion.
