KERICHO, Kenya – Former Chief Justice, and Presidential hopeful David Maraga has mourned his sister, Mrs Sabina Kemunto Otiambo, who has died at the age of 107.
Maraga announced her death in a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, describing Sabina as a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life was marked by warmth, wisdom and devotion to her family.
Sabina was the wife of the late Raphael Otiambo Nyangena and a sister to Maraga and her other siblings.
Maraga said Sabina’s memory would live on through her children, Grace Moraa Ochoi, David Nyangau, Simon Monari, Eunice Kemuma, Job Miranga and Florence Nyanchama.
She also had two late sons, Peterson Nyambane and Kamanda.
Sabina Leaves 53 Grandchildren And Great-Grandchildren
According to the family announcement, Sabina was a grandmother and great-grandmother to 53 children, giving her the opportunity to witness several generations of her family.
Maraga described her as a pillar of strength to the family and said her legacy would continue through the generations she helped nurture.
“It is with heavy hearts, but endless gratitude for a life richly lived, that we share the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother,” Maraga said.
Burial Set For October 9
Sabina will be laid to rest on Friday, October 9, at her home in Nyairobi Village, Kipkelion, Kericho County.
The funeral service will be held at the family home, followed immediately by her interment.
Maraga thanked family friends and well-wishers for their prayers, love and support as the family prepares to celebrate Sabina’s life.
The former Chief Justice described her as a special matriarch who lived to a remarkable age of 107 years.
