KITENGELA, Kenya — Detectives have foiled a planned robbery targeting a senior military officer in Kitengela, arresting six suspects in an intelligence-led operation involving alleged collaboration between Kenya Defence Forces personnel and civilian accomplices.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers received intelligence on Monday, March 23, 2026, indicating that a criminal syndicate was preparing to carry out an imminent attack.
Detectives then placed the suspects under surveillance, monitoring their movements and preparations ahead of the planned operation.
According to investigators, the suspects arrived at the scene in two vehicles — a black Toyota Harrier and a Toyota Ractis that remained nearby with a driver on standby.
A female suspect reportedly stepped out of the Harrier and approached the main gate of the targeted premises while pretending to seek access.
Detectives, who had already secured the area, moved in and arrested her, triggering a swift interception of both vehicles by backup teams positioned nearby. The operation led to the arrest of six individuals believed to be part of the planned robbery.
Police identified the suspects as Charles Kiio Matata, a Kenya Defence Forces sergeant stationed at Kahawa Garrison; David Ng’aa Mwangangi, described as a civilian mechanic attached to KDF at Kahawa Barracks; Samuel Agango Odoyo, a KDF service member currently on interdiction; Alex Mumo Kisilu of Umoja; Richard Mwania Muasya of Tala; and Stella Nzuki Mweni of Umoja Inner Core.
All six suspects remain in custody as detectives continue processing and interrogation.
Authorities said a search conducted at the scene recovered items believed to have been intended for use during the robbery. The items included KDF jungle uniforms, military boots, a crowbar, a claw hammer, a knife, pliers, and multiple mobile phones.
Investigators believe the recovered equipment suggests the suspects may have intended to disguise themselves during the operation. Detectives are also examining whether the group is linked to previous criminal incidents.
The DCI said the crime scene has been processed and investigations are ongoing to establish the full scope of the syndicate’s activities, including potential links to organised criminal networks involving security personnel.

The development comes amid increased scrutiny over cases involving rogue members of disciplined forces, with authorities emphasizing the need for accountability within security institutions.
Law enforcement agencies have, in recent months, intensified intelligence-led operations targeting organised criminal gangs operating within Nairobi Metropolitan and surrounding counties.
The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks, stating that all individuals involved in criminal activities would face the law regardless of their status.
Officials said the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed, as detectives continue to pursue additional leads connected to the planned robbery.
