PORTLAND, United States- DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has asked members of his party to stop attacking politicians they perceive to be President William Ruto’s allies and concentrate on defeating the President in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to Kenyans living in Portland, Oregon, Gachagua said confronting individual politicians described as government “moles” and “projects” would distract the opposition from its main objective.
“I have told people in DCP not to be worried about these moles and projects. Don’t waste time on them. Our main focus is William Ruto. Don’t get distracted,” Gachagua said.
His remarks follow weeks of political attacks by some DCP leaders against People’s Party of Kenya leader and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
The DCP leaders have accused Nyoro and his party of being used by the government to divide the Mt Kenya vote and weaken the United Opposition ahead of the next election.
DCP Secretary-General designate and Nyandarua Senator John Methu previously described Nyoro’s party as another “wheelbarrow” allegedly created to divide the region.
Gachagua has also criticised the party, referring to it as a “green wheelbarrow” and linking it to President Ruto’s political strategy.
Nyoro has rejected the accusations and maintained that he is part of the opposition seeking to remove Ruto from power.
“I have not heard any leader directly accuse our party. If they do, I will come out and defend it,” Nyoro said earlier in September.
He argued that PPK would expand the opposition by accommodating politicians and aspirants who did not want to join the existing parties.
The Kiharu MP later warned DCP leaders to confront him directly instead of sending others to attack him or using coded language.
“Next time you want to insult Ndindi Nyoro, stop sending people or using coded language; mention me by name. I will face you eye to eye,” Nyoro said.
‘Do not lose focus’
Gachagua has now urged DCP supporters to avoid prolonged political fights with Nyoro and other politicians perceived to be working for the government.
“Once we deal with him, automatically we have dealt with his moles, his projects and his allies,” he said, referring to President Ruto.
According to the former Deputy President, spending time confronting individual politicians would weaken the opposition’s campaign against the President.
“If we start fighting the people he is using, we will lose focus,” Gachagua said.
He repeated the appeal directly to DCP members, describing the politicians and parties associated with the government as distractions.
“I am taking this opportunity to ask the people in DCP: Please don’t waste time on Ruto’s allies, on his moles, projects and such other irritants,” he said.
Gachagua maintained that the United Opposition remains committed to selecting one presidential candidate who will face Ruto in 2027.
He said the coalition’s priority should be maintaining unity and building support for the eventual candidate instead of engaging in fights with every politician suspected of working with the government.
Nyoro has said he is prepared to work with other opposition leaders but will not remain silent when he or his party is directly attacked.
