NAIROBI, Kenya – Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale have won temporary relief after the High Court suspended a decision to withdraw or alter their security detail.
In its interim ruling, the court barred the State from “detrimentally varying the security detail and arrangements of the 1st Interested Party and the 2nd Interested Party, in terms of the numbers, composition, and particulars as they existed immediately before the impugned actions.”
The judge issued the orders pending the inter partes hearing of a petition challenging the changes, filed through a Notice of Motion dated November 28, 2025.
Alongside the restraining orders, the court also granted a conservatory directive compelling Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to immediately reinstate the protection assigned to the two leaders.
The reinstatement, the court noted, must restore the arrangements to the exact status they held prior to the disputed alterations.
The ruling means both Governor Natembeya and Senator Khalwale will continue to enjoy full security protection as the case proceeds, marking a significant reprieve in a dispute that has sparked political attention and concerns over the withdrawal of security for elected officials.
