NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenyans interested in joining The Equitable Party (TEP), whose leader is Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, can apply through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties’ (ORPP) mobile service.
Sifuna’s party has asked prospective members to dial *509# and enter party code 100 when prompted to select a political party.
The ORPP lists TEP under that code, with the slogan “Tusawazishe.”
Steps to register
Dial *509# on your mobile phone and follow the menu prompts.
Choose the option to join a political party, provide the requested details, select your county, constituency and ward, then enter 100 when asked for TEP’s party code.
Review the information and confirm your application.
The ORPP says its USSD service allows members of the public to join a party of their choice.
It also says a party must approve digital membership applications before the membership register is updated.
What to know before applying
The ORPP says party members must be Kenyan citizens and registered voters, and a person cannot belong to more than one political party at the same time.
It is also an offence to register someone as a party member without their consent.

If you are unsure whether you are already registered with a party, check your status through the ORPP before applying.
TEP is already a fully registered party.
ORPP records show it was registered on March 25, 2022, and identify 100 as its certificate serial number.
The proposed “Linda Mwananchi Movement” name is a separate branding development.
Sifuna has said the party would seek to change its name.
