NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau has announced that he will not contest for the Murang’a County gubernatorial seat, ending speculation over his political plans ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement addressed to his supporters in Murang’a and Kenyans at large, Kamau said the decision followed deep reflection, consultations and prayers.
Kamau said leadership should be measured by service to the people rather than the pursuit of elective positions.
“This decision has been made with a clear conscience and a firm conviction that leadership is ultimately about serving the people, not merely seeking elective office,” Kamau said.
The former MP said his commitment to the people of Murang’a and Kenya remained unchanged, adding that he would now focus his efforts on supporting The United Alternative Government, a political platform he said champions unity, accountability and people-centred leadership.
Kamau said he believes national transformation can only be achieved when citizens come together to promote good governance, integrity and development.
“I have chosen to dedicate my energy and efforts to supporting THE UNITED ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT, whose vision is to build a united, just, accountable, and prosperous Kenya for all,” he stated.
The former lawmaker urged his supporters and well-wishers to support his decision, saying the focus should remain on putting Kenya’s interests above individual ambitions.
Kamau served as the MP for Kigumo Constituency in Murang’a County before leaving elective office. His announcement reshapes the political landscape in Murang’a ahead of the 2027 polls, where several candidates are expected to seek the governor’s seat.
He maintained that his political journey would continue, saying his mission was to contribute towards building a better Murang’a and a stronger Kenya.
