NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested two suspects accused of snatching two mobile phones from a member of the public during a security crackdown in Kasarani.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday in the Clay City, Sunton and Hunters areas after allegedly attempting to evade police officers.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspects’ attempt to flee prompted officers to give chase before cornering and apprehending them.
“The duo attempted to evade arrest, prompting a swift pursuit by the officers, who cornered and apprehended them,” the NPS said.
A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of the stolen mobile phones and several crude weapons that police believe may have been used in criminal activities.
The weapons have been retained as evidence as investigations continue.
The two suspects remain in police custody pending arraignment.
Police have continued to intensify operations in parts of Nairobi targeting street crime, including phone snatching and other forms of robbery.
