Kenya Sugar Board Grower Representatives Election Set for November 24

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Sugarcane growers across Kenya’s sugar-producing regions will elect five representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board on November 24, 2026, following a fresh notice issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

The Elections Committee announced the date in a notice dated October 30, confirming that the electoral process will proceed in line with the Sugar Act, 2024, the applicable election regulations and existing court orders.

The election will determine the five grower representatives who will serve on the Kenya Sugar Board under Section 6 of the Sugar Act, which provides for grower representation and the process through which the representatives are elected.

The announcement follows an earlier invitation for applications issued on May 12, 2026, and subsequently extended on August 7.

The committee later published the final list of candidates on August 20, paving the way for the election process.

It also confirmed that the final voters register had been published on the Kenya Sugar Board’s website and displayed physically at designated facilities, in accordance with Rule 9(7) of the Procedure for Election of Grower Representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board, 2025.

The November 24 exercise will therefore allow registered sugar crop growers in the respective catchment areas to participate in choosing their representatives.

The committee said the process would comply with the governing legal framework and court orders, although the notice did not provide further details on the polling arrangements or the specific venues.

The five elected representatives will join the Kenya Sugar Board, which oversees the sugar industry and provides a framework for the participation of growers in sector governance.
