NAIROBI, Kenya – Deputy President Kithure Kindiki left the country on Wednesday morning to attend the inauguration of Mozambique’s president-elect Daniel Francisco Chapo.
Chapo,48, won the recent election by 65pc of votes, which was disputed by election observers, opposition leaders, and the public, who alleged that there was electoral fraud.
The disputed outcome caused widespread unrest where more than 270 people, including children, protesters, and security personnel died, according to human rights organizations.

The unrest saw the opposition leader Venancio Mondlane go to exile in South Africa, alleging an assassination attempt, but he returned to the country last week.
Chapo has previously held various roles in the country, including provincial governor, university lecturer, radio and television host, legal notary, and general secretary of the ruling party, Frelimo.
Before his departure, DP Kindiki met with Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Moalim at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), and they discussed various issues affecting Kenya and Somalia.
