NAIROBI, Kenya- Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced that a group of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Kirinyaga County has joined his party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former Deputy President said the delegation visited his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, where they formally declared their support for DCP.
According to Gachagua, the delegation was led by Eric Muchina, the MCA for Kerugoya Ward.
He said the leaders had resolved to join DCP and would seek re-election on the party’s ticket in the next General Election.
The leaders Gachagua identified as joining DCP are:
- Eric Muchina – Kerugoya Ward MCA
- Jinaro Njamumo – Mutithi Ward MCA
- Peter Karinga – Tebere Ward MCA
- Peter Weche – Wamumu Ward MCA
- Geoffrey Wadaudi – Kiine Ward MCA
- Thomas Mwangi – Mukure Ward MCA
- Fredrick Maina – Inoi Ward MCA
- Jeremiah Makimi – Kariti Ward MCA
- Dr. Isaiah Mbogo – Kabare Ward MCA
- James Wambu – Kangai Ward MCA
- Gichangi Bosco – Nominated MCA
Gachagua described the move as a significant development in Kirinyaga politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
“These leaders have affirmed their intention to seek re-election on the DCP ticket,” he said.
The former Deputy President added that the latest defections reflected what he described as growing support for DCP across the country as the party continues to recruit leaders and aspirants from different political formations.
The announcement comes days after Gachagua also said several Jubilee Party aspirants from Nakuru County had joined DCP ahead of his planned political tour of the county.
DCP, which Gachagua unveiled after his fallout with President William Ruto’s administration, has been intensifying grassroots mobilisation and recruitment of political leaders as parties position themselves for the 2027 General Election.
