NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and 2027 presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i has vowed to prioritise integrity, fairness, and transparency in Kenya’s economic management if elected president.
Speaking on Sunday, Matiang’i emphasised that his administration would create a predictable and investor-friendly environment, where all businesses are treated equally and public offices are free from undue pressure.
“If elected, my responsibility will be to ensure a fair, predictable, and enabling environment in which enterprise can thrive,” Matiang’i told Citizen TV.
The former CS, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, said strong governance and respect for institutions are critical to attracting both local and foreign investment.
He argued that economic growth depends on trust, stability, and adherence to the rule of law.
Campaign Funded by Ordinary Kenyans and Volunteers
Matiang’i also revealed that his 2027 campaign will rely largely on contributions from ordinary Kenyans and volunteers, highlighting a departure from the high-cost, elite-funded campaigns typical in Kenyan politics.
“I am benefiting from small people, fellow teachers, volunteers who are making contributions,” Matiang’i said.
“Two-thirds of people in my campaign are volunteers; they are not earning a salary.”
Acknowledging that he does not possess the vast personal wealth often associated with presidential contenders, Matiang’i said he is comfortable being upfront about his financial standing.
Matiang’i is running on a Jubilee Party ticket after being formally declared the party’s presidential flagbearer by former President Kenyatta on October 30.
He is among the principals in the United Opposition coalition seeking to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
