MOMBASA, Kenya — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old female TikToker with trafficking heroin valued at Sh327,510 in Mombasa.
The accused, Amir Latif, appeared alongside the minor before Resident Magistrate Green Odera, where they faced charges under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, as amended in 2022.
They pleaded not guilty to trafficking 109.17 grams of heroin.
Principal Prosecution Counsel Purity Musembi urged the court to impose strict bond terms, citing the seriousness of the offence and the need to shield the public from the dangers of illicit drugs.
In his ruling, Odera directed Latif to deposit a Sh1 million bond with a surety of equal value, surrender his passport, and refrain from leaving the court’s jurisdiction pending trial.
The court declined to grant bond to the minor following an age assessment that confirmed she is 17 years old.
She has been remanded at Likoni Children’s Remand Home and will be placed under the supervision of the Children’s Department for correction, reintegration, and rehabilitation.
A social inquiry report presented in court indicated that the minor had been living with Latif after leaving her parents’ home three years ago.
Pre-trial proceedings are scheduled for March 17, 2026.
The charges highlight the DPP’s continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking along the Coast region.
