NANDI, Kenya – A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized over 250 boxes of illicit alcohol in an operation at Mosoriot Market, Nandi County.
One suspect was arrested during the raid, which was carried out in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS) as part of a nationwide crackdown on counterfeit and non-compliant alcoholic products.
According to NACADA, the seized liquor has been handed over to government laboratories for analysis to determine its composition and regulatory compliance.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said the operation was timed to coincide with the ongoing school holidays, noting that the agency aims to protect children and youth from exposure to harmful substances.
“This crackdown is a proactive measure to sanitise our communities before our children come home,” Dr. Omerikwa said. “Idle time presents a significant risk, and the substances we seized today are precisely the kind that prey on vulnerable youth. We are acting to remove this poison from circulation.”
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and actively engage their children during the holiday period, warning that the fight against drug and alcohol abuse begins at home.
“Our enforcement teams are dismantling the supply chain with zero tolerance,” he added. “But protection begins at home. Parents must be the first line of defense — engage your children positively and be alert to ensure this holiday period is safe and productive.”
The crackdown is part of a broader national campaign targeting the manufacture, sale, and distribution of unregulated alcoholic drinks, which NACADA says pose serious health and social risks.
