NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced that repair works on a damaged water transmission pipeline along Outering Road are nearing completion, but have been delayed due to persistent heavy rainfall affecting the capital.
In an update issued Sunday, the utility provider said only a small section of the pipeline remains to be repaired.
However, adverse weather conditions have significantly hampered operations, particularly at a river crossing along the affected section.
According to the company, repair works had to be suspended at around 10:00 PM on Saturday due to safety concerns for staff and equipment deployed at the site.
“The heavy rainfall made conditions unsafe for crews working at the river crossing, forcing a temporary halt to the final phase of the repair works,” the company said in its statement.
The damaged transmission line has disrupted water supply to several neighbourhoods served by the pipeline, prompting the utility firm to apologise to customers affected by the interruption.
To help mitigate the disruption, the company advised residents to access water through its bowser delivery service by dialling *260# and selecting Option 5.
“We anticipate resuming and completing the remaining repairs later today, weather permitting,” the company added.
The utility provider said its technical teams remain on standby to resume work immediately once weather conditions improve, to restore normal water supply as quickly and safely as possible.
The delay comes as heavy rains continue to pound several parts of Kenya, raising concerns about flooding and infrastructure disruptions across major urban centres, including Nairobi.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as the rainy conditions persist, noting that ongoing downpours can affect key infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems and water supply networks.
