NAIROBI, Kenya- Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has confirmed that he will defend his Senate seat in the 2027 General Election, ending speculation over his political future amid growing succession debates within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking on Monday, the ODM Leader declared that he was ready to seek another term as Siaya senator, signaling that he still has unfinished political business despite calls from some quarters for generational transition within the party.
“I will be defending my position as the Senator of Siaya County in 2027,” Oburu said.
The announcement comes at a politically sensitive moment for ODM as internal realignments and succession politics intensify ahead of the next General Election.
Oburu’s declaration is expected to shape the political landscape in Siaya County, where discussions over possible new entrants into the Senate race had already begun.
Political analysts say his decision could discourage potential challengers within ODM.
The Siaya senator has remained a powerful figure within ODM and recently insisted that the party would defend all its elective seats despite growing political cooperation between President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and sections of the ODM leadership.
Oburu has also previously dismissed suggestions that ODM could be swallowed by rival political formations.
“ODM cannot be swallowed. It is too big to be swallowed,” he said during an ODM youth convention earlier this year.
