NYERI, Kenya- The government has reiterated its commitment to peace, democratic freedoms, and public safety, emphasizing that political violence and hooliganism will not be tolerated.
Speaking during a visit to Rutune School in Nyeri County, Principal Secretary for Internal Security, Dr. Raymond Omollo, stressed that all Kenyans have the constitutional right to express their views, but that such freedom must be exercised within the law.
“This administration reaffirms its position that hooliganism and disorder will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and security agencies remain vigilant in ensuring accountability and maintaining public order,” Dr. Omollo said.
He highlighted ongoing efforts led by National Government Administration Officers and the Nyeri County Commissioner, Josephat Biwot, to strengthen community safety, combat illicit alcohol, and address social challenges, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Dr. Omollo urged communities to work together to protect vulnerable residents and uphold dignity and safety for all.
During his visit, Dr. Omollo engaged with school leadership and Sub-County education officials, noting the need to increase student enrollment and improve academic performance despite adequate teaching staff.
He emphasized ongoing national education reforms, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, construction of 25,000 classrooms, implementation of Competency-Based Education, and university funding reforms aimed at strengthening human capital.
He also highlighted that the transition rate from primary to junior secondary school in Nyeri County stands at 99 percent, reflecting strong progress.
Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira, also addressed students and the community, emphasizing the importance of education, faith, and community support.
“Education is a shared responsibility. Perseverance, resilience, and commitment to studies will open doors to opportunity and help young people reach their full potential,” he said.
Dr. Omollo outlined major development projects underway in Mukurweini Constituency, including road infrastructure worth Sh2.9 billion, modern markets valued at Sh162 million, affordable housing projects at Sh980 million, and student hostels with 3,000-bed capacity.
He said these initiatives demonstrate the administration’s commitment to equitable development, economic growth, and improved livelihoods.
The event was attended by Nyeri Senator Hon. Wahome Wamatinga, students, parents, teachers, and community leaders, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing education and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
