Oburu Odinga Signals ODM Coalitions Ahead of 2027 Elections

Date:

MIGORI, Kenya — ODM leader Dr. Oburu Odinga has said the party will pursue strategic coalitions with like-minded political formations ahead of the 2027 General Election, emphasizing that this is central to the party’s path to power.

Speaking at the Linda ground rally at Posta Grounds in Migori, Odinga said he has been mandated by ODM to initiate discussions with parties interested in forming the next government.

He also confirmed that talks with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over potential power-sharing arrangements are being explored.

“We are reviewing our 10-point agenda and remain committed to fully implementing it,” Odinga stated, assuring supporters that ODM’s core policy priorities will guide any coalition negotiations.

ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga echoed the call for broad alliances, noting that any viable coalition should strengthen the party’s position for the 2027 elections. “Failure to implement the 10-point agenda could create political bottlenecks,” she warned.

Other party leaders, including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, addressed the rally, with Junet hinting at interest in the deputy president’s seat in a future coalition government.

ODM plans to convene a National Delegates Council (NDC) meeting on March 27 to review progress on coalition talks and chart the party’s next steps.

Both Wanga and Odinga dismissed concerns that engagement with UDA or coalition strategies could undermine the current broad-based government arrangement, insisting the party remains united and focused.

The announcements signal ODM’s commitment to leveraging strategic alliances to secure electoral advantage while maintaining internal cohesion and policy continuity.
