NAIROBI, Kenya – Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has vowed to shield his family from online attacks, following a public spat with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who recently linked Alai’s spouse to alleged social media provocations.
In a Monday interview with a local media outlet, Alai emphasized that his wife and children are not active on social media and should not be targeted in political disputes.
“These people, especially my children and wife, are not political players. They don’t even have social media accounts. They’re not involved in this,” Alai said.
The MCA further disclosed that he has raised concerns about online insults directed at his family with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), but efforts to resolve the matter have so far been unsuccessful.
“I am a fair game; you can target me if I’ve opened myself up to public scrutiny. But when it comes to my family… they should be off-limits,” Alai added.
The remarks come two days after Owino alleged that Alai physically assaulted him during an altercation at a Kilimani restaurant along Lenana Road.
In a statement released on Sunday, January 4, the Embakasi East MP said the incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. while attending a meeting with a senior clergyman.
Owino claims he approached Alai and others seated at a nearby table out of courtesy, but the encounter escalated after Alai accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against his wife.
“Without provocation, he accused me of being behind alleged social media attacks on his wife. I calmly explained that I do not know his wife and have no reason to involve innocent family members in politics,” Owino said.
The incident has intensified the political tension between the two leaders, highlighting the growing concerns over personal attacks spilling into public and digital spaces.
