NEW YORK, US – President William Ruto is set to meet Kenyans living in the United States on Sunday, September 20, during a Presidential Diaspora Engagement in New York.
The event will be hosted by the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.
Ruto to engage Kenyans in US
The embassy has invited Kenyans residing in the United States to attend the presidential engagement, describing it as an opportunity for direct interaction between Ruto and the diaspora.
The meeting will take place at Convene, 30 Hudson Yards, New York, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
According to the embassy, discussions will focus on issues affecting Kenyans abroad, government priorities and opportunities for the diaspora to contribute to national development.
Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform to launch
A key highlight of the event will be the official launch of the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform (KDIP).
The platform is intended to expand opportunities for Kenyans living abroad to participate in investment and national development initiatives.
The government also expects KDIP to provide a mechanism for sustained engagement between the diaspora and government beyond the presidential meeting.
Platform targets diaspora investment
The embassy said the initiative is designed to deepen engagement with Kenyans abroad while creating opportunities for investment and participation in national development.
It will also seek to facilitate continued dialogue on diaspora perspectives and government priorities.
The launch comes as the government seeks to strengthen links with Kenyans living outside the country and expand their participation in economic and development initiatives.
Registration required
Kenyans planning to attend the New York meeting have been directed to register in advance through the diaspora.go.ke platform.
The embassy said only registered attendees will be admitted to the venue.
Walk-in attendance will not be permitted.
Identification documents required
Those attending the event will also be required to present valid government-issued identification for verification before entry.
Accepted documents include a Kenyan national identity card, driver’s licence or passport.
The embassy urged Kenyans intending to attend to complete registration and carry the required identification documents to facilitate admission.
Ruto’s US engagements
The New York diaspora meeting forms part of the President’s engagements with Kenyans living abroad during his visit to the United States.
The government has increasingly highlighted the diaspora’s role in investment, national development and strengthening economic links between Kenya and its citizens abroad.
The launch of KDIP is expected to provide a formal platform for such engagement and continued interaction between the government and the Kenyan diaspora.
