NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a blistering attack on President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing them of engineering the chaos witnessed at Kariobangi North PCEA Church on Sunday.
Gachagua, who spoke during the Thanksgiving ceremony for newly elected Kariobangi North MCA David Warui, claimed the government deployed hired goons and police officers to intimidate residents after the UDA candidate performed poorly in the recent by-election.
Gachagua Accuses Ruto of “Intimidation Politics”
Gachagua said the violence was a calculated effort to coerce the community into supporting the President.
“We have reached a point in the Republic of Kenya where William Ruto wants to force us to support him through intimidation,” he said. “He has sent goons and police to assault the people of Kariobangi North simply because they did not elect a UDA candidate.”
He warned the Head of State that such tactics would only alienate Mt. Kenya voters.
“You are radicalising the Kikuyu nation… Each time you send goons to attack leaders and citizens, this community grows to resent you even more,” he cautioned.
The former DP linked the unrest directly to the by-election outcome, where the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate clinched victory while UDA’s candidate finished fourth.
Gachagua also called out Governor Sakaja, accusing him of letting State House use him to intimidate residents.
“Why are you allowing Ruto to use you to send goons to harass your own community? These people voted for you,” he said.
According to Gachagua, the Kariobangi North results, alongside DCP wins in Narok Town and Kisa East, signalled a growing rejection of the ruling party in key regions.
DCP’s Rise and a New 2027 Political Pact
Gachagua celebrated recent electoral wins as evidence of DCP’s growing national footprint.
“For a party that is only seven months old, it has won three seats out of five,” he noted, highlighting victories in Kariobangi North, Narok Town, and Kisa East.
He then announced a new pact between DCP and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 elections.
