Six Killed, Four Injured in Kericho Road Accident

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- At least six people lost their lives and four others were seriously injured on Tuesday night following a grisly road accident at Kipsitet in Kericho County along the Kisumu–Kericho highway.

According to police reports, the crash involved a matatu and a lorry, leaving several passengers trapped in the wreckage. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, with survivors taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Kericho County Police Commander said investigations were underway to establish the exact cause of the crash but preliminary reports point to speeding and possible reckless driving.

“The accident occurred at around 9:30 pm, and unfortunately, we lost six people on the spot. Four others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care,” the police commander said.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described a horrific collision, with locals and first responders working together to pull victims from the mangled vehicles.

The accident has once again drawn attention to the rising cases of fatalities on the Kisumu–Kericho highway, a route that has recorded multiple deadly crashes in recent months. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially at night and during the ongoing rainy season when roads are slippery.

“We are appealing to drivers to adhere to speed limits and road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives,” the police commander added.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary as families of the victims were notified.
