Angata Barrikoi GSU Camp Raided Following Police Exit Order

Date:

NAROK, Kenya – A group of goons raided the General Service Unit (GSU) camp in Angata Barrikoi, Narok, on Friday, just days after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja had ordered the officers to vacate the premises.

According to a police report, the attackers, believed to be from Gwetembe Kuria East Ntimaru Subcounty in Migori County, destroyed building structures and looted valuable items left behind, including iron sheets, water tanks, timber, and parts of the unit hat.

The raid occurred shortly after the GSU officers had left the camp in the middle of the night, following Kanja’s directive.

The officers had vacated the site following violent clashes in late April, which resulted in the deaths of five civilians and several officers being injured.

In the aftermath of the raid, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Angata Barrikoi and his team visited the scene to assess the damage.

The police report indicates that the goons took advantage of the absence of GSU personnel, who had been moved following a security directive from the IG.

On April 29, 2025, IG Kanja had visited the camp following the violent clashes that led to fatalities and injuries.

During his visit, he emphasized the need for improved coordination and community engagement to prevent such incidents in the future.

In a bid to restore peace and security in the area, Kanja ordered the departure of the current GSU personnel and instructed the posting of a new team of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and GSU officers to oversee security in Angata Barrikoi.

Kanja directed the DCI to recall the current District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) and post a new one to work closely with the local community.
